Area of application - Advanced High Strength Steel
Payload:
Using high strength steel and thereby lowering the deadweight gives the possibility to carry more cargo per journey at the same total weight as in the past. This leads to fewer shipments and major savings. An added advantage is that the environmental impact is less since the fuel consumption is reduced.
Tare weight:
By using advanced high strength steels in for example containers, great gains can be made by reducing the tare weight. The container tare weight can be reduced by around 15 percent, this was previously only achievable in aluminium containers.
Light weight:
Aluminium has always been the material of choice for advanced lightweight applications such as in the aerospace industry. Advanced high strength steel offers the same weight saving possibilities but is much more suited to the design and production methods used for heavy transport equipment.
